On Monday, police recovered over one kilogram of charas and arrested two alleged drug peddlers in separate operations in Shopian and Budgam districts of Jammu and Kashmir. The timely action reflects the police’s commitment to curbing the drug menace in the region.
In Shopian, officers from Police Station Zainapora launched a significant operation following credible information. They registered FIR No. 77/2025 under the NDPS Act and secured a search warrant from the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court.
A police team headed by the Station House Officer (SHO) Zainapora, accompanied by the Executive Magistrate 1st Class, conducted the search at the residence of Gh. Mohammad Sheikh, son of Sanaullah Sheikh, located in Humhuna Nagbal. During this operation, authorities seized a kilogram of charas-like substance along with a grinder machine purportedly employed for processing the contraband.
“The accused is currently absconding, and police have intensified efforts to apprehend him,” a police spokesperson stated.
In a separate action, police from Police Post Wachi conducted vehicle checks at a checkpoint in Naghard Wachi. Their vigilance paid off as they intercepted a man identified as Imtiyaz Ahmad Sheikh, son of Gh. Hassan Sheikh from Pombia Kulgam. Sheikh was found with 101 grams of charas-like substance in his possession.
Officials registered a fresh case against him as FIR No. 78/2025 under the NDPS Act at Police Station Zainapora and they are pursuing further investigations.
In Budgam district, law enforcement arrested another suspected drug peddler during routine naka checking at Checkpora Kralpora. The individual, identified as Moomin Qadir Dhobi, son of Gh. Qadir Dhobi of Dharambugh Kralpora, was found to be carrying 112 grams of charas-like substance.
Police registered this incident as FIR No. 173/2025 under the NDPS Act at Police Station Chadoora. Investigations are ongoing to uncover further details and connections in the case.
