Ex-President Kovind Urges Youth to Join Politics for Change

Former President Ramnath Kovind on Thursday expressed concern that “good people” are abandoning the political arena, urging the younger generation to actively participate in the nation’s political scene. Kovind articulated these sentiments while serving as the chief guest at the annual Vijayadashmi rally organized by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) at Reshimbagh ground in Nagpur.

Kovind’s address highlighted the pivotal roles played by RSS founder Keshav Baliram Hedgewar and Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar in shaping his understanding of social harmony and national unity. He stated, “I was inspired by the values of national unity and social harmony advocated by Dr. Ambedkar and Dr. Hedgewar. My experiences with the RSS have instilled a belief that there is no place for casteism and discrimination within its framework.”

The former president emphasized that Hedgewar’s thoughts significantly influenced his perspective on society and the nation, creating a vision centered on inclusivity and progress.

In his heartfelt appeal, Kovind lamented the lack of participation from morally upright individuals in politics. He firmly stated that active political engagement is vital for the development and well-being of society. Kovind said, “Good people are shying away from politics, and this trend poses a challenge to our democratic values.”

He encouraged the youth to embrace political responsibilities, asserting that their involvement is essential for steering the country towards a prosperous future.

Moreover, Kovind revealed that he is currently penning a book titled ‘Triumph of the Indian Republic’, which aims to outline key successes in India since its independence.

The Vijayadashmi rally also coincided with the centenary celebrations of the RSS, an organization founded by Hedgewar on Dussehra in 1925. The rally marked not only a significant event in the RSS’s history but also served as a platform for fostering dialogue on the significance of active political citizenship.

As India navigates complex socio-political challenges, Kovind’s call to action resonates with many, highlighting the need for a new generation of leaders who embody the values of integrity and commitment to public service. Engaging with politics is crucial to address contemporary issues effectively and uphold the democratic spirit.
