RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat reaffirmed the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s (RSS) dedication to its core mission of ‘vyakti nirman’ (character building), firmly rejecting political enticements during the centenary celebration at the Vijayadashami event in Nagpur on Thursday. His address sought to reflect on the organization’s enduring journey over the past 100 years.
Bhagwat emphasized the need for gradual reforms in the global order, urging that they must evolve step by step to avert destruction. “India must present a development model based on a holistic and integrated outlook, rooted in dharma, and offer it to the world,” he stated, articulating a vision that extends beyond national borders.
Delving into the concept of dharma, Bhagwat clarified that it transcends mere worship, rituals, or traditions. It embodies a connecting principle vital for societal cohesion. He expressed confidence that social transformation is achievable through exemplars of integrity, selflessness, and leadership—core values that the RSS seeks to instill through its numerous shakhas.
“Over the last century, the RSS has faced multiple temptations and invitations to engage in politics. However, the Sangh has steadfastly focused on running shakhas and promoting character-building,” Bhagwat asserted.
He labeled vyakti nirman as the appropriate path for sustainable social change, echoing the collective wisdom of swayamsevaks. He underscored India’s rich diversity in languages, faiths, lifestyles, and traditions, asserting that this pluralism should be viewed as a societal strength. “All communities, including those who adopted foreign religions, are part of the larger Indian identity,” he remarked, advocating for harmony, mutual respect, and a firm rejection of violence.
In a pointed criticism of hooliganism and communal discord, Bhagwat urged law enforcement agencies to operate without bias, emphasizing the serious importance of maintaining public order. He called upon society, particularly the youth, to stay vigilant, organized, and proactive in intervening to ensure peace and harmony prevail in the community.
