Javed Ahmed Rana Urges Preservation of Tribal Heritage at Mela

Today, during the vibrant Tribal Mela at Sagra, Mendhar (Poonch), Minister for Tribal Affairs Javed Ahmed Rana called for a united effort to protect the rich tribal heritage in the Pir Panjal region. He emphasized that development should not compromise cultural identity.

Rana addressed the gathering, organised by the Tribal Affairs Department in collaboration with the District Administration, stressing the need for an integrative approach that harmonizes progress with the preservation of traditions. “Unchecked modern influences can erode our customs and moral codes,” he warned.

Reaffirming the Omar Abdullah Government’s commitment to inclusive growth, Rana stated the objective of building a resilient, self-reliant tribal society grounded in tradition. He acknowledged the significant contribution of the Tribal Affairs Department and local administration for facilitating the Mela, describing it as a meaningful step towards development with dignity.

The Tribal Mela attracted large crowds, showcasing tribal heritage, food, and traditional wisdom. Stalls highlighted indigenous cuisines, medicinal plants, and healthcare knowledge systems. Additionally, a free medical camp offered consultations and services, emphasizing the government’s focus on community health.

Rana’s presence at the event symbolized the government’s resolve to create development policies that resonate with the realities of tribal life while celebrating their unique culture. He stated, “It is imperative that our development strategies are rooted in the lived experiences of our tribal communities. This Mela serves as an avenue to honour their contributions and heritage.”

Significant figures, including Chairperson DDC Poonch Tazeem Akhtar and Deputy Commissioner Poonch Ashok Kumar Sharma, along with senior officers and a large number of locals participated in the event, which underscored communal spirit and collaboration.

Events like the Tribal Mela not only celebrate tribal culture but also highlight the importance of preserving its nuances. The Minister’s call for collective and sustained efforts resonates with aspirations to protect tribal values while embracing development.
