Bihar Assembly Elections to Be Held in Two Phases on Nov 6, 11

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar announced that the Bihar Assembly elections will take place on November 6 and 11. The counting of votes follows on November 14, concluding the electoral process by November 16.

During a press conference, Kumar referred to the upcoming polls as the “mother of all elections”. He highlighted the Election Commission’s commitment to ensure transparency and a smooth electoral process across all constituencies.

The elections will occur in two phases: the first phase on November 6, covering 121 Assembly constituencies, and the second phase on November 11, involving 122 constituencies.

“It is mandatory to complete counting of postal ballots before the last two rounds of counting of votes,” stated the Chief Election Commissioner.

The nomination process for candidates will begin shortly. For the first phase, candidates must file nominations by October 17, with scrutiny occurring on October 18. Candidates may withdraw their nominations by October 20.

In the second phase, the deadline for filing nominations is October 20. Scrutiny will follow on October 21, and candidates can withdraw by October 23.

The current term of the Bihar Legislative Assembly is set to end on November 22. Bihar hosts a total of 243 Assembly constituencies, comprising two reserved for Scheduled Tribes (ST) and 38 reserved for Scheduled Castes (SC).

The Chief Election Commission aims to ensure that every aspect of the election process adheres to the highest standards of integrity, focusing on voter confidentiality and security.

This election comes at a significant time as leadership in Bihar has faced scrutiny over developmental issues and social concerns. Voter turnout is expected to be crucial, with many hoping for reforms and fresh initiatives from the elected representatives.

The unfolding events surrounding these elections will not only shape the future of the state but also set benchmarks for upcoming elections in India. The Election Commission urges all eligible voters to participate actively, marking their influence in the democratic processes.
