Vishwakarma Day Celebrated with Devotion in Jammu

Vishwakarma Day was celebrated across Jammu today with great religious devotion and traditional rituals. Technical workers, artisans, and industrial staff observed the occasion by offering prayers to Lord Vishwakarma — the divine architect and creator of the universe — seeking blessings for safety, prosperity, and success in their professions.

According to longstanding tradition, workers across all sectors observed a “no-work” day, dedicating their time to cleaning, servicing, and worshipping their machines and tools. This custom stems from the belief that offering prayers to Lord Vishwakarma safeguards workers from accidents and enhances the overall prosperity of industries and organisations. Vishwakarma Day is traditionally observed on the day following Diwali.

At the Vishwakarma Sabha Temple Complex in Bakshi Nagar, Jammu, celebrations commenced with a Hawan and special prayers invoking the blessings of Lord Vishwakarma. The event, organised by the Vishwakarma Sabha, attracted several prominent figures, including Member of Parliament Jugal Kishore Sharma, MLA Jammu West Arvind Gupta, and J&K BJP President Sat Sharma (CA).

The dignitaries highlighted Lord Vishwakarma’s life and legacy, describing him as the “divine engineer” and an eternal source of inspiration for every craftsman and worker involved in building, designing, or creating.

They praised the crucial role of technical workers in the progress of the nation, calling for unity and welfare within the Vishwakarma community. The smooth conduct of the programme fell under the capable leadership of Kuljeet Rai (Chairman, Vishwakarma Sabha) alongside Vijay Kumar (Vice Chairman) and others.

Meanwhile, at the Vishwakarma Temple in New Plots, Jammu, a Hawan and Bhajan Kirtan took place, supervised by Mohinder Lal (President of the Temple Committee).

Speaking on the occasion, Mohinder Lal reiterated the long-standing demand for declaring Vishwakarma Day as a Gazetted Holiday. He stated, “Every worker already observes an undeclared holiday on this day.” Supporting this demand, Ramesh Angotra urged the Government to officially recognise the cultural and industrial significance of the day.

A community feast, known as Langer, followed the main festivities, organised for devotees. The dedicated team behind this effort included Rattan Lal, Joginder Angotra, Pappu Virdhi, Vishal Angotra, Kunal Angotra, and Jitender Jajua.
