Priyanka Gandhi Opposes Election Commission’s Voter List Revision

Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra strongly opposed the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists in Kerala during her visit on Wednesday, asserting that the Congress party will continue its resistance both in Parliament and on the streets. The Election Commission (EC) initiated the SIR process, which Priyanka claims seeks to alter electoral rolls unfairly.

While addressing reporters in her Wayanad constituency, she emphasized the Congress party’s unwavering stance against this move. “The Election Commission plans to carry out SIR of voter lists across several states, including Kerala, and we will fight against it vigorously,” she remarked. She pointed to Bihar’s implementation of SIR as an example of how such practices undermine democratic values.

Priyanka stated, “We have witnessed what transpired in Bihar. The SIR exercise there proved to be an affront to democracy, and if this approach spreads to other states, we must be vigilant and challenge it.” She described the revision as “the only way of committing fraud and cheating in the election,” underscoring the Congress party’s commitment to safeguarding electoral integrity.

Earlier in the day, she inaugurated the Rajiv Gandhi Memorial Government Ayurveda Dispensary in Ernad, Malappuram district, part of her constituency. This project aligns with her party’s broader effort to enhance healthcare services in the region.

Priyanka arrived at Karipur Airport early in the morning and proceeded to Wayanad by road, where she has several development projects lined up for inauguration during her two-day visit. Her engagement in local issues aims to strengthen the Congress party’s ties with the electorate ahead of upcoming elections.

The opposition to the EC’s voter list revision highlights ongoing concerns about electoral processes in India. Political stakeholders suggest that such measures risk eroding public confidence in democratic institutions. Echoing these sentiments, Priyanka Gandhi’s firm stance against the SIR may mobilize grassroots support against any perceived injustices.

As the political climate in Kerala heats up, the Congress party’s competitive stance could shape voter sentiment ahead of crucial elections. Priyanka Gandhi’s remarks and activities reflect a strategic effort to consolidate party support and address local grievances effectively.
