Historic Thrombolysis for Stroke at GMC Doda: A Lifesaving Milestone

Doda, Nov 2: The Government Medical College (GMC) Doda has made a historic advancement in healthcare by successfully performing its first thrombolysis procedure on a stroke patient, marking a transformative moment for emergency healthcare in the Chenab Valley.

The procedure, guided by Principal Dr. Rakesh Bahl and Department Head Dr. Amir Hussain Parray, is the first of its kind in this remote region.

The patient, Roshan Lal, from Dolli village in Gundna tehsil, arrived at GMC Doda exhibiting classic stroke symptoms. The urgent evaluation and treatment were led by Dr. Govinder Kumar, assisted by resident doctor Dr. Divyanshu and intern Dr. Momin. Their efforts received crucial support from Mr. Rajinder Singh, Mr. Arif Mir, and the nursing staff.

Doctors affirmed that the patient has shown a positive response to the thrombolytic therapy and is on a steady path to recovery.

Before this breakthrough, patients with acute stroke had to be transferred to GMC Jammu or other major hospitals, risking their chances of survival due to time delays. The introduction of thrombolysis at GMC Doda enables local patients to receive immediate, world-class stroke management.

Dr. Bahl celebrated this achievement, calling it a significant milestone for GMC Doda that reassures many in remote areas access to advanced treatment promptly. He stated, “This capability will drastically change the healthcare landscape in our region.”

Dr. Parray added, “Our successful thrombolysis operation showcases the team’s dedication and proactivity in emergency medicine. It’s more than a medical first; it represents hope and rejuvenation for the Chenab region.”

The procedure has garnered substantial praise from the local community, as it stands as a vital step towards enhancing healthcare infrastructure that can save lives, especially during the critical golden hour following a stroke. According to health experts, timely thrombolysis can significantly improve stroke outcomes, making this development a game-changer for the district.

Local residents expressed gratitude, acknowledging how this initiative will save lives and reduce the travel burdens historically faced by stroke patients in the area. As GMC Doda continues to enhance its service offerings, it reinforces hope for better healthcare accessibility throughout the Chenab Valley.
