In an effort to curb illegal activities, the Awantipora Police launched a comprehensive inquiry into vehicle transactions within the police district on October 12, 2023. SDPOs and SHOs visited local car dealerships to examine records and ensure compliance with established regulations.
Authorities highlighted that the inquiry targets instances where an individual purchases multiple vehicles, a practice often associated with unlawful activities. During these inspections, officers thoroughly checked dealers’ documentation to ensure adherence to legal requirements.
Officials mandated that car dealers maintain accurate records for each transaction. This includes capturing Aadhaar details, phone numbers, and contact information for both buyers and sellers. These measures aim to enhance transparency and accountability in vehicle dealings.
The police believe this initiative is critical in reinforcing surveillance systems and preventing vehicles from being exploited for anti-social or illegal purposes. The drive connects to the wider public safety strategy of the Awantipora Police.
SSP Awantipora, during a press briefing, stressed the importance of preventive policing. He stated, “Strict monitoring of vehicle transactions is crucial to thwart potential misuse by anti-social or anti-national elements,” underscoring the need for cooperation from the public and vigilance from car dealers.
He further added that community awareness plays a pivotal role in maintaining peace and order, emphasizing the collective responsibility of stakeholders in the region.
