On the birth anniversary of revered nationalist leader Pandit Prem Nath Dogra, also known as Sher-e-Duggar, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) paid tribute to his legacy across Jammu and Kashmir on October 1, 2023.
The commemorative event, held in Srinagar, featured BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh leading the proceedings. Chugh, along with senior leaders, laid floral wreaths at Pt. Dogra’s portrait in the party office, marking the occasion with immense respect.
Notable attendees included Sat Sharma, J&K BJP President; Ashok Koul, General Secretary (Organization); Dr. Shehnaz Ganai; and Anwar Khan, all of whom expressed their admiration and offered floral tributes to the exemplary leader.
Tarun Chugh hailed Dogra as “an institution of national integration and selfless service,” shedding light on his significant contributions to the nation.
On the occasion, Chugh noted, “His unwavering struggle for ‘Ek Vidhan, Ek Nishan, Ek Pradhan’ has become the moral compass of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, inspiring the BJP even today.”
Chugh pointed out that the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A by the Narendra Modi government realized Pt. Dogra’s aspirations and stood as a testament to his dedication to national unity.
Sat Sharma described Pt. Dogra as a visionary leader who successfully championed the Praja Parishad Movement and dedicated his life to the complete integration of Jammu and Kashmir with India.
He asserted, “Pandit Ji’s long-cherished dream has been fulfilled under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”
Similarly, Ashok Koul shared memorable insights into Dogra’s character, emphasizing his moral integrity. Koul expressed that Dogra’s leadership in the “Ek Vidhan, Ek Nishan, Ek Pradhan” movement resulted in abolishing the separate post of Prime Minister of Jammu and Kashmir.
Meanwhile, in Jammu, BJP leaders gathered including MP (Lok Sabha) Jugal Kishore Sharma, J&K BJP General Secretaries Sanjita Dogra and Baldev Singh Billawaria, among others. Together, they performed a Hawan and offered heartfelt floral tributes at Dogra Chowk.
During the gathering, Jugal Kishore Sharma referred to Pt. Dogra as “a towering statesman and patriot who led the historic Praja Parishad Movement for full integration of Jammu and Kashmir with India.”
Sanjita Dogra encouraged party workers to draw inspiration from Pandit Ji’s selfless spirit, highlighting the need to propagate his ideals. Baldev Singh Billawaria stressed that Dogra’s ideological foundation played a pivotal role in unifying Jammu and Kashmir with the Indian Union.
As the BJP continues to remember its icons, the tributes to Pt. Prem Nath Dogra signify a commitment to the principles he championed, reinforcing the party’s narrative of national integration.
