The Special Crime Wing of Crime Branch Kashmir (CBK) conducted house searches at five different locations in central Kashmir’s Srinagar and Budgam districts on Saturday, November 4. Officials linked these searches to an ongoing investigation into a cheating case concerning fraudulent land sales.
An official spokesperson for the Crime Branch Kashmir confirmed the operations, stating, “The Special Crime Wing, Srinagar of Crime Branch Kashmir is carrying out house searches at five different locations in District Srinagar and Budgam in connection with the investigation of a case registered at Police Station Special Crime Wing, Srinagar.” This case pertains to allegations of cheating and fraud related to land transactions.
The investigation was prompted by a complaint from an individual who claimed to have been deceived by a seller on the pretext of purchasing land. The complainant alleged that they received documents purportedly proving ownership, which were believed to be genuine. They subsequently paid lakhs of rupees for the land, only to discover that it did not belong to the sellers.
The spokesperson detailed the incident, stating, “It later surfaced that the land did not belong to the sellers, a fact that was substantiated during the enquiry.” This revelation led to the registration of a case by the Crime Branch, prompting the current investigations.
As the house searches continue in Srinagar and Budgam, the Crime Branch remains focused on gathering evidence and protecting potential future victims of similar frauds. The spokesperson added, “House searches are underway and further investigation is in progress.” The Crime Branch is committed to uncovering the truth behind the alleged fraud and ensuring accountability.
Residents expressed concern over the prevalence of such fraudulent practices in the region. Many believe that more stringent actions against land frauds could help restore trust in property transactions. National and local authorities have been urged to reinforce regulations and oversight in land deals.
This incident highlights the importance of caution in real estate transactions and the need for due diligence. As the legal proceedings unfold, authorities are likely to find more individuals who may have faced similar situations. The Crime Branch assures the public of their commitment to deal rigorously with land fraud cases.
