Congress Alleges Conspiracy to Silence Rahul Gandhi Amid Death Threats

The Congress party intensified its attack on the BJP and RSS on Monday, accusing them of orchestrating a conspiracy to silence Rahul Gandhi. The statements follow recent controversial remarks made by Printu Mahadev, a former leader of the ABVP, who issued a chilling death threat during a televised debate.

Congress’s media and publicity head, Pawan Khera, condemned Mahadev’s remarks, saying it reflects a desperate attempt by those losing an ideological battle to intimidate the Leader of the Opposition. Khera stated, “A BJP spokesperson said on TV that ‘Rahul Gandhi will be shot in the chest’ and no action has been taken. This stinks of conspiracy.”

Khera further noted, “Before this, the CRPF sent a letter regarding Rahul Gandhi’s safety, only to see it leaked. Why politicize his security?” He implied that this incident demonstrates a strategic effort to undermine Gandhi’s voice amid growing public support for his political agenda.

The Congress leader emphasized, “Those who cannot counter ideas resort to threats. They are losing, and they know it.” He attributed the BJP’s tactics to their inability to engage with the issues raised by Gandhi, spanning from Kashmir to Kanyakumari. His words channeled a passionate defense of Gandhi, insisting that the nation deserves better than intimidation.

Khera asserted that the Congress party will not allow violence to dictate political discourse. He said the party remains vigilant, asserting, “The country knows who is behind this conspiracy.”

Offering deeper insight, Congress general secretary K C Venugopal penned a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah regarding Mahadev’s remarks. Venugopal demanded immediate action against Mahadev, cautioning that failure to do so will indicate complicity in fostering an environment of violence against the Leader of the Opposition.

Venugopal described Mahadev’s statements as a clear incitement to violence. He stated, “This is not a slip of tongue; it is a cold, calculated death threat against one of India’s foremost political leaders.” He stressed the broader implications of such threats, which undermine democratic principles and put Gandhi’s life at risk.

Venugopal further challenged the BJP government by asking, “Do you endorse the politics of criminal intimidation and violence that poison India’s public life?” This rhetorical question highlights concerns regarding the ruling party’s stance on threats directed at political opponents.

“A death threat against Rahul Gandhi transcends personal safety; it attacks the democratic spirit he embodies,” Venugopal claimed. He deemed the atmosphere of hostility surrounding Gandhi as a dangerous trend that reflects a larger, toxic political climate.

He concluded, “The nation demands swift legal action through the state police. We seek justice that is immediate and visible, critical for the safety of our leaders.” As the political narrative unfolds, the Congress party aims to galvanize public sentiment against the backdrop of rising threats to democratic dialogue in India.
