In a remarkable achievement for neonatal care, the Government Medical College Doda has successfully managed and discharged a newborn who weighed an impressive 6 kilograms at birth. This milestone highlights the institution’s growing expertise in addressing complex neonatal cases.
The baby, who came into the world on 25th October 2025 at 1:20 PM, was delivered to a mother diagnosed with diabetes. Shortly after birth, the newborn experienced severe respiratory distress within the first 30 minutes of life, necessitating immediate action.
Upon recognizing the baby’s critical condition, medical staff swiftly admitted the infant to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). There, specialized care commenced to support the newborn’s respiratory needs. The healthcare team implemented neonatal respiratory support while closely monitoring various parameters, including oxygen saturation, blood sugar levels, temperature, and neurological function.
Over the coming days, the baby showed significant improvement, allowing the medical team to gradually reduce respiratory support. Notably, the infant maintained stable independent breathing and normal oxygenation levels.
The final 72 hours before discharge demonstrated the baby’s continued progress, with no episodes of apnea, cyanosis, or desaturation. After ensuring sustained clinical stability, the newborn left the hospital in a healthy condition, with necessary follow-up appointments scheduled.
This successful case benefits from the leadership of Dr. Najmus Saqib, the Head of Pediatrics, alongside esteemed faculty members including Dr. Narinder Singh, Dr. Ghansham Singh Katoch, Dr. Niraj K.
