Indian Air Force (IAF) Chief, Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh, confirmed on Friday that the IAF successfully destroyed 4 to 5 Pakistani fighter jets, likely F-16s, during the execution of Operation Sindoor. The operation, conducted across multiple Pakistani airbases, targeted several significant military installations.
Addressing media representatives in New Delhi, Singh detailed how the precision strikes inflicted heavy damage on vital infrastructures such as radars, command centres, runways, and hangars. Notably, a surface-to-air missile (SAM) system was also struck. Additionally, Singh stated that a C-130-class transport aircraft and possibly a high-value surveillance plane were damaged during the assault.
“We struck a large number of their airfields and installations…radars at four places, two command centres, two runways, and three hangars were destroyed. We have evidence of one C-130 aircraft being hit, and at least 4–5 fighters, most likely F-16s, were under maintenance at that time,” the Air Chief Marshal emphasized.
Singh also highlighted the strategic use of newly procured long-range SAMs during the operation. These advanced systems effectively prevented the Pakistan Air Force from conducting operations even within their own borders. The mission achieved a significant milestone by completing the longest successful missile strike, extending over 300 kilometers, thereby crippling Pakistan’s aerial response capabilities.
Describing Operation Sindoor as a decisive and time-bound success, Singh remarked, “This was a war started with a clear objective and concluded swiftly once our goals were achieved. Unlike prolonged global conflicts, India demonstrated that clarity and precision can force an adversary to ask for a ceasefire.”
He underscored that the outcomes of the operation should resonate globally, particularly as ongoing international conflicts scarcely yield resolution. Such decisive operations may serve as crucial lessons for other nations grappling with protracted disputes.
