India Dominates Pakistan by 88 Runs in Women’s World Cup Clash

In a dramatic ICC Women’s World Cup match held on Sunday, India triumphed over Pakistan by 88 runs, significantly boosting their campaign. The standout performances came from Harleen Deol and Richa Ghosh, whose contributions were pivotal for India’s win.

The match began with confusion over the toss. India was mistakenly reported to have lost, giving Pakistan the option to bowl first. Despite the setback, India posted a formidable 247 all out on a slow pitch, setting a daunting target for their rivals.

Deol scored a composed 46 runs off 65 balls, providing stability for the Indian innings, while Ghosh added a quick-fire 35 runs off just 20 balls, accelerating India’s score towards the end of their innings.

Kranti Gaud led India’s bowling attack with remarkable figures of 3 for 20, dismantling Pakistan’s batting line-up. Her early strikes proved crucial as she took out key players and set the tone for a disciplined performance. Deepti Sharma supported with 3 for 45, while Shree Charani added 2 for 38, effectively wrapping up Pakistan for just 159 runs in 43 overs.

Pakistan began their chase in disarray, losing Muneeba Ali early in a comical run-out after an unsuccessful LBW appeal. Gaud capitalized on the pressure, quickly dismissing Sadaf Shamas and Aliya Riaz, leaving Pakistan struggling at 26 for 3.

Despite a valiant effort from opener Sidra Amin, who scored 81 off 106 balls, Pakistan could not build substantial partnerships. Amin found some support from Natalia Pervaiz, but their 69-run stand was not enough to turn the tide.

India’s innings had a steady start, with Pratika Rawal contributing 31 runs and providing momentum early on. However, regular breakthroughs from Pakistan’s bowlers, particularly Diana Baig (4/69) and Fatima Sana (2/38), kept India in check.

Despite such pressure, Deol’s partnerships with teammate Harmanpreet Kaur (19) and Jemimah Rodrigues (32) proved vital in building a competitive score. Just when Pakistan appeared to regain control, Richa Ghosh launched a counterattack with her swift hitting, propelling India beyond 240.

The match featured not only cricketing highlights but also drama off the field. The play experienced a 15-minute delay due to a swarm of insects invading the ground. Additionally, both teams adhered to their “no-handshake” policy following ongoing tensions.

India’s remarkable victory marked their unbeaten streak against Pakistan, extending it to 12-0 in One Day Internationals. This win underscores India’s strength in women’s cricket and builds momentum as they aim for further successes in the tournament.

Brief Scores:

  • India Women: 247 all out in 50 overs (Harleen Deol 46, Richa Ghosh 35*, Jemimah Rodrigues 32; Diana Baig 4/69, Fatima Sana 2/38).
