Mathura Police arrested a man identified as Sunit alias “Katua” on Friday for issuing a death threat to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The arrest took place in Nagla Hardayal, located in the Mant area of Mathura, after Sunit posted a video on social media threatening to kill the Chief Minister.
Sunit’s viral video showed him brandishing a pistol and menacingly declaring that he would shoot Yogi Adityanath by September 25 before taking his own life. He also displayed a magazine with nine live bullets, threatening to use them all if necessary.
In the video, Sunit expressed frustration, claiming he had earlier filed complaints with the CM’s office but felt ignored, compelling him to resort to such drastic measures. His statement mirrored a deeper turmoil that he claimed to have faced, leading him to threaten the Chief Minister.
When police arrived at Sunit’s home to execute his arrest, he barricaded himself inside and opened fire from the third floor, threatening to shoot himself in the process. The intense standoff lasted nearly an hour, eventually leading to Sunit’s surrender. Officers confiscated a pistol and live ammunition from his possession.
Local residents expressed concern for Sunit’s mental state, stating he had been dealing with significant personal issues that seemed to increasingly affect his behavior. Neighbors noted that Sunit often spoke loudly about his troubles, giving them cause for concern about his mental well-being.
The authorities acted promptly after the video gained traction on social media, escalating the urgency of the situation. Law enforcement agencies are probing how Sunit acquired the firearm and are further investigating the motives behind his threat.
The police registered a case against Sunit, accusing him of serious offenses including criminal intimidation, inciting violence, and illegal possession of arms. As the investigation continues, the focus remains on identifying any underlying issues that led to this alarming behavior.
