Pak Military Pleaded for Cessation During Operation Sindoor

On September 27, India revealed that Pakistan’s military had pleaded for a ceasefire during Operation Sindoor. This statement underscores the tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors and highlights India’s firm stance against third-party intervention. The remarks came from Petal Gahlot, First Secretary at India’s Permanent Mission to the UN, following a contentious address by Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, at the UN General Assembly.

Gahlot expressed India’s deep concern over Sharif’s comments during the 80th session of the UNGA, characterizing them as ‘absurd theatrics.’ He accused the Pakistani leadership of glorifying terrorism, a sentiment that has increasingly marked their foreign policy. India firmly articulated its position that there is no room for outside influence in its relations with Pakistan.

In his address, PM Sharif emphasized that Pakistan remains open to a ‘composite, comprehensive, and result-oriented’ dialogue with India concerning all outstanding issues, notably reiterating his country’s claims over Kashmir. He also took the opportunity to credit former U.S. President Donald Trump for allegedly preventing a war between India and Pakistan. Sharif stated, “In recognition of President Trump’s wonderful and outstanding contribution to promote peace in our part of the world, Pakistan nominated him for the Nobel Peace Prize. This is the least we could do … I think he truly is a man of peace.”

Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7, saw India targeting terror infrastructure surrounding locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. This military action served as retaliation for the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, which took the lives of 26 civilians. India’s proactive stance in Operation Sindoor reflects its resolve to combat terrorism and safeguard its borders.

India has consistently maintained that the understanding for a cessation of hostilities with Pakistan emerged following high-level talks between the Directors General of Military Operations of both nations. With rising military tensions, the call for dialogue and peace remains a critical aspect of this ongoing conflict.
