PM Modi Celebrates 11 Years of Make in India Initiative

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Uttar Pradesh International Trade Show-2025 in Lucknow, highlighting the monumental achievements of the ‘Make in India’ initiative over the last 11 years. Launched on this day in 2014, the initiative has significantly strengthened the Indian economy and propelled the nation towards self-reliance.

In his speech, Prime Minister Modi expressed satisfaction with the progress made, stating, “It is gladdening to see how 11 years of Make in India has contributed to furthering economic strength and laying the foundation for Aatmanirbharta.” He remarked that the initiative has fostered innovation and job creation across various sectors.

Modi emphasized the government’s commitment to boosting indigenous production and encouraged stakeholders to contribute to making India a ‘Swadeshi’ economy. He said, “Make in India has given an impetus to India’s entrepreneurs, thus creating a global impact.” By focusing on local manufacturing, the initiative has positioned India as a competitive player in the global market.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the government’s efforts to simplify business processes. Reviewing changes made, he noted, “The government has abolished more than 40,000 compliances, and more than a thousand laws were decriminalised.” These measures aim to make it easier for businesses to thrive and innovate.

During the inaugural address, Modi reiterated the importance of the manufacturing sector, stating, “We want everything from chip to ship to be manufactured in India.” This commitment aligns with the overarching goal of the Make in India initiative, which focuses on enhancing production capabilities and economic self-sufficiency.

Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal also praised the initiative for its role in boosting indigenous defence production. He stated, “The world is a witness to India’s defence manufacturing strength today!” Goyal’s remarks underscore the significant advancements achieved in the defence sector, thanks to the momentum created by the ‘Make in India’ initiative.

Today, India celebrated another milestone in its defence capabilities with the successful launch of the Intermediate Range Agni-Prime Missile. This strategic asset, designed to target distances of up to 2,000 kilometers, reflects the nation’s commitment to enhancing its defense manufacturing strength as a part of the Make in India vision.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh extended congratulations to the agencies involved in the missile launch, further solidifying the achievements linked to the ‘Make in India’ strategy. This initiative aims to showcase India as a self-reliant country, capable of indigenously producing high-tech military systems.

As the Make in India initiative marks its 11th anniversary, it becomes imperative to assess its contributions toward enhancing India’s economic landscape. By pushing the envelope of self-reliance and facilitating ease of doing business, the government ensures that businesses, both large and small, can flourish and innovate.

The journey ahead will require continued commitment from government and industry players to reinforce India’s manufacturing prowess and entrepreneurial spirit.
