PM Modi Hails RSS Centenary, Unveils Coin and Stamp

Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) on Wednesday during its centenary festivities, emphasizing the organization’s unwavering commitment to placing the ‘nation first’. This celebration acknowledged the contributions of the RSS to India’s social fabric, especially amid challenges over the years.

Modi participated actively in the centenary events, where he praised the RSS for its extensive role in nation-building. He emphasized the Sangh’s efforts to foster societal harmony, overcome caste divides, and nurture national unity. “The Sangh has fought against British atrocities and provided shelter to freedom fighters. Its founder, Dr. Keshav Baliram Hedgewar, repeatedly faced imprisonment during the freedom struggle,” he stated.

The Prime Minister reflected on the formidable challenges faced by the RSS, including numerous bans and legal hurdles, asserting that the organization responded with grace and perseverance: “They never harbored bitterness.” Modi quoted former RSS chief Madhav Golwalkar, who once said, “At times, the tongue may get caught under the teeth, but we do not break the teeth.” This sentiment underscored the RSS’s tranquil approach in times of strife.

Modi also acknowledged the organization’s resilience during the Emergency period and its steadfast faith in democratic principles. He noted, “Two core values – unity with society and trust in constitutional institutions – have kept swayamsevaks composed during every crisis.”

As a tribute to this historic milestone, the Prime Minister unveiled a special ₹100 commemorative coin and a postal stamp. The coin presents the national emblem on one side and features Bharat Mata illustrated in Varada Mudra, accompanied by a lion and devoted swayamsevaks. The stamp commemorates the RSS’s participation in the Republic Day Parade back in 1963.

“This is a moment of immense pride for our nation as Bharat Mata has been illustrated on Indian currency for the very first time,” Modi expressed with enthusiasm.

Recalling the RSS’s significant humanitarian efforts during critical events, such as the 1962 Sino-Indian War, the 1971 refugee crisis, and the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, the Prime Minister highlighted the organization’s enduring commitment to equality, empathy, and unity. He commended current Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat for advocating the vision of “one well, one temple, one cremation ground,” aiming to eliminate social discrimination.

In response, RSS General Secretary Dattatreya Hosabale extended gratitude towards the government for recognizing its century-long dedication. He regarded the launch of the coin and stamp as a tribute to the selfless service of swayamsevaks since the organization’s inception in 1925, emphasizing the ongoing relevance of its principles.
