The Railways Department has officially announced plans to extend the Vande Bharat train service from Jammu to Srinagar, aiming to boost regional connectivity for residents and travelers. This upgrade will allow the service to commence from Jammu, enhancing travel options across the region.
Divisional Railway Manager Jammu, Vivek Kumar, confirmed this development. He stated that preparations are well underway to enable this extension of the semi-high-speed train service. Kumar also explained that the previous timeline faced delays due to significant damage sustained by railway tracks from recent floods and incessant rains.
“We are diligently working towards this extension. The unforeseen delays stemmed from the extensive damage caused to tracks due to floods and heavy rainfall. However, we assure the public that this service will soon be accessible to those traveling from Jammu to Srinagar,” Kumar said during a press conference. He emphasized that restoration work progresses rapidly, and the launch will follow the necessary safety clearances.
The Vande Bharat train service, first introduced earlier this year, has already transformed travel between the Katra base camp of the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine and the Valley. With its extension to Jammu, this service promises to further enhance regional connectivity, creating significant benefits for commuters, pilgrims, and tourists.
Officials anticipate that the Jammu to Srinagar Vande Bharat train will operate daily once it becomes fully functional. This new route will offer improved travel comfort and dramatically reduced journey times compared to existing rail and road alternatives. As a result, this new service aims to facilitate better access to the picturesque landscapes of the Kashmir Valley and the spiritual site of Mata Vaishno Devi.
