LoP Sunil Sharma Discusses Jammu & Kashmir Issues With LG Sinha

Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma Meets LG Manoj Sinha in Srinagar

Srinagar, September 16, 2025: Leader of Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Shri Sunil Sharma, met the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha at Raj Bhawan Srinagar. The discussion revolved around pressing issues affecting the residents of Jammu and Kashmir amidst ongoing natural calamities.

Shri Sharma raised significant concerns regarding road connectivity, expressing that many areas remain isolated due to landslides and severe flooding. “This disconnection is hampering public movement and emergency services,” he stated. With the added challenges to healthcare access, restoring road networks has become critical for the communities.

Power and Water Supply Challenges in J&K

In addition to connectivity, the power supply and water crisis were key topics during the meeting. “Flood-prone and mountainous areas are experiencing drastic electricity cuts and inadequate access to drinking water,” Shri Sharma emphasized. He urged action to restore regular services promptly to alleviate the hardships many families are currently facing.

The heart of the matter is the ongoing plight of residents after the floods, which has impacted daily life significantly. The Leader of Opposition strongly requested the administration prioritize these utilities to ensure residents can resume normal life.

Call for Enhanced Flood Relief Support

Shri Sharma also addressed the lack of adequate flood relief measures currently being offered. He pointed out that the financial help for families whose homes have been severely damaged or lost is insufficient. “We need to increase the aid for those impacted so they can rebuild their lives with dignity,” he argued.

During their discussion, it was made clear that restoring homes and spirits is as crucial as any infrastructure project. “The government should enhance its financial support effective immediately,” he noted, aiming to provide immediate aid to those in distress.

Postponement of Competitive Examinations

Another significant concern raised by Shri Sharma was the postponement of competitive examinations, particularly the JKPSC Lecturer recruitment and Munsiff exams. He shared concerns from many aspirants who are struggling to reach testing locations due to cut-off areas and disrupted internet services caused by the recent calamities. “It’s vital for fairness that these exams are rescheduled,” he appealed to the Lieutenant Governor.

The urgency of this situation cannot be overstated, with students unable to prepare adequately due to external circumstances. This appeal touches the lives of every student and their families within Jammu and Kashmir.

In response to these concerns, the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha assured Shri Sunil Sharma that all matters mentioned will be prioritized for timely action. “We are committed to addressing these challenges head-on,” Sinha promised.

Shri Sunil Sharma expressed his gratitude towards the Hon’ble LG for his willingness to listen. “As Leader of Opposition, it is my responsibility to represent the aspirations and needs of Jammu and Kashmir’s people,” he stated emphatically. “My commitment is to ensure that all voices are heard and taken seriously.”
