In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, Srinagar Police attached immovable property worth approximately ₹1.20 crore belonging to notorious drug peddler Nisar Ahmad Sheikh on Tuesday. This operation is part of the ongoing 100 Days Campaign under the Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan.
Authorities acted under Section 68-F of the NDPS Act, executing the attachment at the Police Station Nowhatta. The action connects to FIR No. 61/2019, which charges Sheikh under Sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act.
The seized assets comprise a fully renovated three-storey residential house, a separate single-storey concrete kitchen block equipped with three washrooms, and 09 marlas of land. This extensive property raises concerns about the escalating drug problem in the region.
Nisar Ahmad Sheikh, son of Habibullah Sheikh and a resident of Kani Dewar, Sheikh Mohallah, Hawal in Srinagar, allegedly acquired this real estate through proceeds from illicit drug trafficking. Police investigations clearly indicate these assets were obtained from illegal activities.
The newly attached property speaks volumes about the financial networks that enable drug-related crimes. By targeting such assets, Srinagar Police demonstrate their commitment to dismantling the infrastructure supporting drug trafficking.
This decisive action underscores the administration’s relentless pursuit of a drug-free society. The police have expressed their resolve to intensify operations against drug peddlers in the coming days. Additionally, they urge the public to cooperate by providing valuable information related to drug abuse or trafficking.
As part of the Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Initiative, law enforcement aims to raise awareness and promote community involvement in combating drug-related issues. Stakeholders stress that while police operations are essential, the community’s role remains pivotal in addressing narcotics challenges.
The seizure of property linked to drug trafficking highlights the significant impact such actions can have on the overall drug menace. It not only disrupts the operational capabilities of drug peddlers but also sends a stern message to those involved in the illegal trade.
As the campaign continues, authorities remain hopeful that increased public awareness and cooperation will lead to a substantial reduction in drug-related incidents in Kashmir.
